It seems much of Joe Exotic’s personal life is only now becoming apparent – much of which was kept out of docu-series of Netflix’s Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness.
The 7-part series has become a lockdown sensation as we find ourselves drawn into Exotic’s long-standing feud with arch-nemesis Carole Baskin as well as his rather eccentric and outlandish lifestyle at his former zoo where he bred and kept more than 200 big cats.
Exotic has been the object of much media scrutiny and has so far been unable to speak out on much of what was televised in the docu-series, due to him currently serving 22 years in prison for the planned murder-for-hire hit on Baskin after he became sick of her activism and meddling ways.
But this hasn’t stopped aspects of Joe’s life being unearthed.
And who knew that the gay exotic animal keeper actually has a secret son?
This was exposed by Exotic’s niece, Chealsi Putman, who revealed that her uncle Joe has an adult son with former girlfriend, Kim.
Who is Joe Exotic’s son?
Joe’s son is named as Brandon Chappell who is now 38-years old and has three children of his own with his former wife.
Brandon had been the product of Exotic’s relationship with former girlfriend, Kim when Joe was working as a police chief in Eastvale, Texas in the early 1980’s.
Speaking with the Daily Mail, Chealsi said: “Joe was in and out of Brandon’s life when he was growing up, at one point just a few years ago Brandon and his then wife both worked at the zoo with Joe”.
“Joe would go around telling everyone this was his son, he made no secret about it”.
Chealsi went on to reveal that despite Tiger King glossing over the fact Joe had a son, Brandon can be seen in some scenes from the show.
Chealsi claims that Brandon and Joe’s relationship had broken down after Joe reportedly tried to push Brandon’s wife into committing fraudulent activities by ‘doctoring the zoo’s books and checking accounts’.
This resulted in Brandon and his wife and children leaving the zoo.
Exotic has even captured the attention of US President Trump earlier this week, with Trump saying he may well look at shortening Joe’s sentence behind bars, but niece Chealsi insists she ‘would have sentenced him to life behind bars’, adding that ‘he wouldn’t ever seen the light of day’.
This perhaps speaks volumes of yet another strained relationship in Exotic’s life.
It is unknown how much Exotic currently knows about what is coming to light about his personal life on the outside world.
Or even news that Hollywood mega-star Orlando Bloom may well play his character in a rumoured new movie based on the Netflix series.
According to The Sun, 20th Century Fox are in the ‘early stages’ of planning a movie version of Exotic’s story due to the docu-series ever-increasing popularity.
A movie source said that the production is currently on lockdown but the project will get going as soon as possible revealing:
“The popularity of the series has been unprecedented and they think a film about it could be even more dramatic. The film could shed light on some details behind the scenes that were not shown in the Netflix series”.
However, according to reports, Exotic sees himself as more of a Brad Pitt, relegating Bloom to the extras pile.
Can’t be too choosy Joe.
We definitely see Bloom as a better choice.
