Driver Arrested And Charged Following Truck Crash Near White House

According to a Secret Service official, there were no injuries reported, but initial investigations suggest that the crash might have been intentional. The driver, identified as 19-year-old Sai Varshith Kandula from Chesterfield, Missouri, allegedly made threatening statements targeting President Joe Biden and Vice-President Kamala Harris.
At a hearing on Tuesday, Kandula's lawyer argued that there was no evidence to support the claim that his actions were intentional. However, the judge disagreed, stating that Kandula posed "a significant risk to the community." As a result, the case is expected to be transferred to federal court.
Kandula faces multiple charges, including assault with a dangerous weapon, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, making threats against the president, vice-president, or their family members, destruction of federal property, and trespassing.
Despite being a US citizen and having no significant criminal record, Kandula was found with a Nazi flag, a black backpack, and a roll of duct tape inside the truck.

Driver arrested for barrier crash near White House

In April 2021, a police officer was killed and another injured when a driver rammed a security barrier near the US Capitol. The perpetrator, a 25-year-old Indiana man, was shot and killed during the incident. Another incident occurred in August of the previous year when an individual drove into a barricade near the Capitol, fired shots into the air, and subsequently took his own life.

As the case against Sai Varshith Kandula progresses, federal authorities will continue to investigate his motives and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
