For one woman, however, this was a challenge well accepted.
Michelle Lesco from Arizona, US, set a new record after eating 2,448 grams of mayonnaise in just three minutes, amounting to three and a half jars.
Lesco was recorded completing the challenge which was then posted online, and it’s safe to say I wouldn’t eat mayo again had I watched it.
Eating competitions are something I cannot for the life of me watch, never mind endure, so it’s impressive that this woman put herself up to the challenge.
Rather you than me, Michelle.
What’s most impressive is that the maths teacher, who is 5′ 4”, actually managed to eat that much mayonnaise in one sitting, as well as actually keeping it down.
And that’s not the only gross challenge Michelle has smashed, as she also holds records for the fastest time to eat a bowl of pasta (26.69 seconds) and the fastest time to eat a hotdog without using your hands (21.60 seconds).
Michelle says it’s all thanks to a combination of fast metabolism and practicing in advance, to which I would also add a strong stomach in general…
I suppose it would make a good problem scenario for her maths students- “so and so eats 6 jars of mayo in 3 minutes. How long does it take to eat one jar?”
Guinness World Records are always making the news for their, well…extraordinariness. There’s nothing quite like seeing someone make records for doing something totally bizarre.
One that immediately comes to mind is the world’s most tattooed man – you know, the guy who literally had every inch of his skin inked?
Lucky Diamond Rich (originally Gregory Paul McLaren) spent 1,000 hours with tattoo artists to achieve his look. He has also had his earlobes stretched and his teeth replaced with silver veneers, along with various other piercings.
It’s not the kind of person you see walking past you every day, but who are we to judge eh?
Then there’s the one I always remember being shocked and slightly disturbed at in my copy of GWR as a kid – the woman with the longest fingernails ever recorded.
Lee Redmond, US, set the record back in 2008, and after 30 years of growth her nails measured a disturbing total 8.65m.
“I started to grow my nails in 1979…it was kind of a challenge to myself to see how far they would go before they started twisting out of shape.”
Imagine going to the salon to get those done…
So, mayonnaise-eating-champion Michelle Lesco joins a whole host of other weird and wonderful record holders, all of whom can be found on the GWR’s ‘Hall of Fame’.
To those mayo-fans who did choose to watch it, I wish you luck enjoying mayonnaise again. Retch.
