I used to be happy with a simple Tesco one with jam in the middle (sometimes custard if I was feeling particularly exotic) but the likes of Krispy Kreme have really upped the doughnut game in recent times.
They’re often seen teaming up with well-known purveyors of chocolate, such as Reese’s and KitKat, to make ultimate combos, and boy I’d do anything to have those on tap at home.
Well now you can, sort of, and although they aren’t Krispy Kremes, they are doughnuts, and right now I’ll take it.
There’s an automatic donut-making machine on the market and yes, we’re living in the year 3000.
Made by kitchenware specialist Nostalgia and currently listed on Amazon, the Automatic Mini Donut Factory is the perfect Wallace and Gromit-esque contraception to make all your fave pastries and breaded delicacies, and it looks pretty great.
According to the product description, the Mini Donut Factory is an all-in-one answer to closed Krispy Kreme and Dunkin stores up and down the country.
As is explained in the bio, the machine “Makes up to 30 donuts per batch,” and features:
“Dough dispensing mechanism creates the perfect sized mini donut; Stainless steel spatulas turn and delivers donuts to the dispensing chute; Includes drip tray to change oil after each use; Safety guard lids keeps hands away from hot oil; Automatic dough dispenser creates perfect orbital donuts; Conveyor pulls donut dough through heated oil; Flipping mechanism automatically flips donut for even cooking; Easy-view window to watch donuts cook; Finished donuts are dispensed from the donut slide into a convenient bin; Includes measuring cup, doughnut bin and magnetic safety power cord; (and) Easy to clean drainage pan.”
If, however, you can’t be arsed purchasing it and want something more immediate, you can (apparently) make your own Krispy Kreme doughnuts at home.
Rob Nixon who runs Nicko’s Kitchen regularly posts videos showing people how to make well-known treats at home.
And despite what you may think, the Krispy Kreme glazed doughnut isn’t that difficult to master.
2 cups milk
1/2 cup butter
2/3 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons yeast
4 eggs (beaten)
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
5 cups SR flour
3 cups icing sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup cold water
To make the doughnuts you will need a handful of basic ingredients including milk, sugar, eggs, self-raising flour, butter, dried yeast and some nutmeg.
To start off you will need to mix the doughnut ingredients together into a sticky dough and knead.
Once they are shaped you’ll need to fry them for 2-minutes on each side.
For the glaze, you will need to combine icing sugar, water and vanilla extract then ice both sides of the doughnut and leave to dry.
Rob’s TikTok video has since gone viral racking up more than 786,000 views and he’s also shared a more in-depth YouTube video if you need extra tips.
What a man.
